Celestial Tiger Entertainment Secures First and Exclusive Rights to the Lingerie Football League

Action channel KIX brings the fastest growing sports league in the United States to Asia

HONG KONG (29 November, 2012) – Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), the operator of the largest bouquet of pan-Asian channels dedicated to Asian entertainment, and Lingerie Football League, LLC (LFL) jointly announced today the signing of a first and exclusive licensing deal for CTE's action channel KIX to bring the Lingerie Football League (LFL) to audiences in Asia.

Since its premiere in 2009, the LFL has been touted as the ‘fastest growing sports league in the United States’ by NBC Sports and has drawn record television ratings for its U.S. broadcaster.

“We are excited to partner with the Lingerie Football League to bring America’s fastest growing sports league to Asia. The LFL is not about models attempting to play football. The LFL presents tough, sexy, and talented female athletes playing full-contact, American football. At KIX, we promise our viewers the hottest action from around the world, and action doesn't get any hotter than this,” said Betty Tsui, Vice President, Programme – KIX and Thrill, Celestial Tiger Entertainment.

“This partnership with Celestial Tiger Entertainment is yet another step towards building a global sport. We thank Celestial Tiger for being the pioneers that introduced LFL Football to Asia,” said, Mitchell Mortaza, Founder & Chairman, LFL Global.

The athletes in their uniform tops and bottoms as well as custom helmet and shoulder pads, have played to sold-out crowds across the US. The (12) twelve US franchises include teams such as the 3-time champion Los Angeles Temptation, Las Vegas Sin and Atlanta Steam all of whom have built an incredible international fan base. The enormous international audience of LFL Football led to the formation and launch of LFL Canada in 2012 followed by the premiere of LFL Australia in 2013 and LFL Europa in 2015. The LFL is also the first-ever women's sport to have attracted its own video game set to be released in 2015.

KIX promises viewers non-stop, heart-pumping action entertainment anchored by four programming “pillars”: combat sports, action series, action reality and action movies. The LFL will be a key program for its combat sports pillar and will air first and exclusively on KIX in the first quarter of 2013 across the Pan-Asian region.

The TV rights deal was brokered by LFL’s exclusive agent in Asia, Total Sports Asia.

Total Sports Asia wins prestigious award at the ISEM 2012

Kuala Lumpur, 28 November 2012 - On 7th November 2012 at the 7th Annual International Sports Event Management Awards 2012 the elite of the sports event management industry celebrated in London and Total Sports Asia (TSA) walked away with two awards.

Total Sports Asia was shortlisted for two Events, the Axiata Cup 2012 and GLORY 1 Sweden. The Axiata Cup, a TSA invention, was awarded with the 1st place in the Event Marketing category.

The Axiata Cup 2012 is an innovative Team badminton event taking place in South East Asia. Being held at two cities at the same time, the first to use home/away format, the first to use virtual ads on surrounding boards and also the first to allow foreign recruits as part of the Asian teams, the Axiata Cup is truly unique and unlike any other badminton event in the world. With prize money of US$ 1 million it also offers the highest purse in Badminton worldwide.

GLORY 1 Sweden was the first event of the newly launched GLORY World Series tour, which is a new innovative kickboxing format that units all the world’s best Stand up fighters. The GLORY World Series (www.gloryworldseries.com) is the world’s premier stand-up fighting league, staging events across the globe and offering up to $1,000,000 in prize money to successful fighters in 16-man and 8-man grand prix tournaments which are open to only the very best fighters in each weight class. TSA is a shareholder and the lead agency in the GLORY World Series.

GLORY Stockholm was awarded with a silver award in the Event Marketing category due to its various promotional activities that have been implemented before, during and after the event to further promote the new innovative Kickboxing format as the World Cup of Kickboxing. The look of the venue- with fighters entering the stage by an elevator- created a unique spirit and further supported the one of a kind atmosphere in the Ericsson Globe Hall in Sweden.

GLORY 3 ROME Final 8 Tournament Brackets and Quarterfinal Round Matchups Revealed For Nov 3

MONTE CARLO, MC (Oct. 16, 2012) –- The $20 million Andreas Super Yacht L moored in Port Hercule was the scene of today’s random draw to determine the opening matches of the GLORY 3 ROME ‘Final 8’ (70 kilogram/154 pound) one-night tournament at the famed PalaLottomatica arena on Saturday, Nov. 3, live on www.gloryworldseries.com.

World No. 1 ranked middleweight Giorgio Petrosyan (71-1-2 (1 NC), 33 KO’s) of Italy, superstar Albert Kraus (66-16-3, 39 KO’s) of Netherlands, KO artist Robin van Roosmalen (35-13-3, 10 KO’s) of Netherlands and Swiss mercenary Shemsi Beqiri (71-7, 31 KO’s) were the top seeds and were allocated numbers 1,3,5 and 7 respectively. Legendary champion Ramon Dekkers took centre-stage to draw the numbers which would determine which of the remaining four fighters would face them.

“These tournaments are the toughest thing in fight sports,” says GLORY Managing Director Marcus Luer. “If you actually think about what these athletes have to do, it is mind-blowing. The winner will have had to face three of the best fighters in the world in the space of a few hours. It is an incredible test of heart, skill and toughness.

“Not only that, but in such a tournament anything is possible. There are favorites of course - Petrosyan is the top seed and Kraus is top-tier - but tournaments throw up all sorts of variables. Tactics are important as well - some fighters play it safe and defensive as they try to avoid damage on the way to the final. Others try and blow through their opponents as quickly as possible to minimise their time in the ring. There will be some truly awe-inspiring performances.”

American standout Ky Hollenbeck (34-7, 21 KO’s) was drawn first and faces Petrosyan in what is the toughest opening match anyone could ask for. Semmy Schilt (World No. 1 ranked heavyweight) student Davit Kiria (18-7, 10 KO’s) of Netherlands was next; the karate stylist is matched with Beqiri in what promises to be a war.

But it could well be eclipsed by the third match, which pits English entrant Tim ‘TNT’ Thomas .(60-1-9, 35 KO’s) against van Roosmalen in what could well be a Fight of the Year contender. The final match saw the tournament’s oldest competitor Kraus, 32, matched with its youngest, 21-year-old Swedish prodigy Sanny Dahlbeck (24-4, 14 KO’s).

Thomas may be an unknown going into this tournament, but Kraus certainly knows who he is. Thomas confidently dismissed Kraus as “past it” in a recent interview and says he will “walk through him” if they meet in the tournament.

The quotes were relayed to Kraus - who was standing right next to Thomas. The two will meet in the semi-final if they win their opening-round matches.

“For me it’s no problem, people can say what they want. Because I don’t think we will be meeting in this tournament! For me it would be great if I meet him in the semi-final but I know that will not happen,” Kraus said. “I think Robin will finish him. I don’t think Robin will have any problem with him.”

After the conclusion of the draw, which streamed live and for free of charge around the world on GloryWorldSeries.com, the eight tournament fighters commented on their opening round match-ups:

Giorgio Petrosyan
“I don’t feel any pressure and for me, I am preparing exactly as I did for my first ever fight. People can call me number one, the favourite and so on - I don’t think about it. I will be in the ring and I will do the best that I can and that’s it.”
“All the fighters here are the best in the world and I respect Ky Hollenbeck very much, I know him. I respect him very much. I don’t want to say anything more than that,” he said of his opponent.

Albert Kraus
“I think I started later so I am the oldest year, but if you look at how many fights they all have (on their records) its similar. I feel confident so, we will see.”

Tim Thomas
“Yeah it’s amazing. I watched Albert [Kraus] and [Giorgio] Petrosyan for inspiration so it’s a dream come true for me. And it’s a chance to prove that I am one of the best as well.
“Nobody is unbeatable - apart from Petrosyan. Ha! No, everyone can be beaten. I take every fight as it comes. I came in to the competition early and I only had a week to prepare so nobody has seen me at my best yet.”

Shemsi Beqiri
“If I win my fight and Giorgio wins his, we will meet in the semi-finals. That really wouldn’t make me feel good because Giorgio is a very close friend for me, like my brother. I really don’t want to have to fight Giorgio but, we will see. And Albert Kraus is also a good friend, we trained together many times. Possibly we meet in the final. I hope not but, business is business eh?”

Davit Kiria
“I come from full-contact karate, Ashihara. It’s a strong style, a hard sport. So for me it’s not so difficult to fight in kickboxing, I am experienced and I had many hard fights in karate. It’s all about heart.”

Ky Hollenbeck
“Are America‘s hopes pinned on me? You could say that. But it’s all about me right now. I’m just going to concentrate on me and doing my best and hopefully that represents my country well.”
“Petrosyan is the number one in the world but I honestly think I have the perfect style to beat him. He is very technical and very orthodox, he often seems to know what someone is going to do before they do it. But everyone says I am very awkward and very difficult to prepare for because I am so unpredictable. I never know what I am going to do next until I do it, so Petrosyan won’t either. I am going to take him out of his comfort zone.”

Sanny Dahlbeck
“I’m going to be honest - this is the first time for me at this level. I haven’t been fighting for a long time so this is a dream come true for me at young age. I’ve been watching these guys since I was a kid, for inspiration and everything. I was ten when Albert won the K1 MAX and I am just really happy. I just hope it opens doors for me.
“If I won the $300,000 grand prize money I would try to be an adult, make investments. Put it into an apartment and try to make the money grow.
“I am a bit nervous but nerves keep you sharp. I hope it will be a good fight and that I will get the best out of my technique.”

Robin van Roosmalen
“People say my fight with Dzhabar Askerov was the Fight of the Year for 2012 so far. Can I make another Fight of the Year contender in this Final 8 in Rome? I think so. They are all good fighters and they all come to fight so, I can make a great fight with everybody. When I fight I do my best to give a good show and win the fight so, it doesn’t matter, I will have a good fight with anybody.”
“Who do I want to fight? Everybody.”

The ‘Final 8’ fight card will also include two tournament reserve matches to determine replacements should any of the main tournament fighters be injured and unable to progress to the next round.

In the first, Yoshihiro Sato (49-18, 20 KO’s) of Japan will face Dzhabar Askerov (73-28-1, 37 KO’s) of Russia. Sato was narrowly defeated by Beqiri in the Final 16 stage of the tournament in Sweden earlier this year while Askerov was eliminated by Van Roosmalen after three absolutely furious rounds in which they gave each other hell.

In the second, the outstanding French talent Fabio Pinca (85-17-4, 32 KO’s) will re-enter the fray after being eliminated in Sweden by Petrosyan. Superbly technical but flamboyant with it, he faces the rising Italian talent Alessandero Campagna (29-5, 14 KO’s) in what will be the hardest test of the young fighter’s burgeoning career.

Doors at PalaLottomatica will open at 18:00 CEST for the Final 8 event. The first preliminary bout will begin at 19:00 and the first main card bout will begin at 20:30.

The live stream on GloryWorldSeries.com will begin with the first bout at 19:00 CEST/1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT.

Former Olympic and FIFA Executive Graeme White Joins Elite GLORY Management Team

SINGAPORE (Oct. 11, 2012) - Glory Sports International announced today the appointment of respected sports business professional Graeme White as Chief Operating Officer of GLORY World Series, the world’s No. 1 professional kickboxing league.

Based in Singapore, Graeme will report to GLORY Managing Director Marcus Luer and work closely with the various heads of GLORY business units based in Amsterdam, London and Kuala Lumpur.

Bringing a wealth of operational and business affairs experience with him, White has worked internationally at a senior management level, developing and delivering many of the world’s highest profile events and brands, including the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and Roots of Fight.

“We are excited to welcome Graeme to the GLORY team, said Luer. “His blue-chip commercial sports expertise extends across broadcast, marketing, event operations, and complex contract negotiations, and he possesses an in-depth knowledge of how to successfully develop and monetize various revenue streams for international properties and brands.” Most recently, White played an integral role in building the Roots of Fight brand of mini-doc films and licensed apparel that includes legendary fight names such as Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee and the Gracie family. Previously, White successfully managed diverse global teams and stakeholders, and was responsible for developing and overseeing key broadcast and commercial components of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups, and the UEFA Champions League. “The opportunity to join the GLORY team and to take the world’s premiere kickboxing league to the highest level of sport was incredibly attractive. I am looking forward to being part of the team that elevates GLORY World Series to a truly exceptional sports property,” said White. In his new role, he will be responsible for developing business plans and strategic initiatives, supporting and managing the overall co-ordination and P&L between the GLORY offices and assisting with various commercial negotiations and arrangements. The announcement of White joining GLORY’s management teams comes off the heels of GLORY 2 Brussels, the biggest kickboxing event in Brussels history on Oct. 6 that was headlined by the highly-anticipated return of all-time heavyweight great Remy ‘The Flying Gentleman’ Bonjasky, who earned a decision over rising star Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva.

GLORY’s next stop will be the historic PalaLottomatica arena in Rome on Nov. 3. The event, GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’, will be headlined by an eight-man single-elimination tournament that will award it’s 70 kilogram (154 pound) winner a Grand Prize of $300,000.

On Dec. 2, GLORY will head to Makuhari Messe (formerly Nippon Convention Center) in Tokyo where it will produce a 16-man, single-elimination heavyweight tournament stacked with an unprecedented collection of the world’s greatest big men.

Lightweight kickboxing KO artist ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Moxon signs exclusive, multi-fight deal with GLORY

London, U.K. (Sept. 25, 2012) - Fast-rising lightweight (70 kg/154 pounds) star ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Moxon (29-4-1, 16 KO’s) of Australia has signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with GLORY to compete in the world’s premier kickboxing league.

At 169 cm (5-foot-5), the 24-year-old Moxon, one of the hottest properties on the Australian fight circuit, is also one of the shortest fighters in his weight class. That might explain why his favourite fighter of all time is two-time heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, one of the shortest, but most lethal heavyweight fighters of all-time who toppled dozens of much physically larger opponents throughout his memorable career.

Moxon’s dynamite-like power in both hands combined with the tremendous amount of forward pressure he puts on opponents while looking for the finish from the opening bell, have been the key factors behind his repeated, highlight-reel worthy finishes.

“I am honoured that GLORY has taken notice of my fights and has called me up to the big show to compete amongst the greatest caliber of competition in the sport of kickboxing,” said Moxon. “I am going to show the world that Stone Cold is the real deal and can thrive in the deepest of waters.

“Steve has been thrilling fans in Australia with his aggressive style and phenomenal power and has earned the opportunity to fight on the biggest kickboxing stage in the world,” says Marcus Luer, Managing Director of GLORY. “We think Steve has the potential to be a huge hit with fight fans worldwide. He will have a series of very tough tests ahead of him in GLORY, so we can definitely expect to see some wars.”

Moxon is coached by standout heavyweight Peter Graham, also no stranger to big KO’s. Graham’s incredible 2006 heel-kick finish of Badr Hari has passed into kickboxing legend.

Among his key victories to date are wins over Ray Sefo protégé Jordan Tai and well-known Australian fighter and The Contender: Asia reality series competitor Bruce Macfie. . Having climbed to the top of the Oceania rankings, Moxon has now earned a chance to test himself against the international elite that make up the GLORY World Series lightweight division.

Total Sports Asia partners with Allianz to build a sustainable Running Community in Indonesia

This year’s Allianz Jakarta Heart Run 10K – organized by the Yayasan Jantung Indonesia (Indonesian Heart Foundation) – will see its first ever Title Sponsor in Allianz Indonesia. The partnership was announced at a press conference in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 12th September 2012. The partnership was brokered by Total Sports Asia – Asia’s global leader in sports content and branding solutions.

An estimated 10,000 local and international running enthusiasts will be participating in the event, which will be held at the MONAS (National Monument) landmark in the heart of Jakarta on 4th November 2012.

As an extension of this partnership Allianz has worked with TSA to create the Allianz Virtual Run which will be held from 1st – 21st October 2012. The Allianz Virtual Run aims at building a virtual running community in order to promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging participants to run anywhere anytime and interact with their peers. The event sees individual as well as team challenges bringing the partnership of running events to a new level – from a single day event to the promotion of a sustainable long term community! The competition builds on the surging popularity of running as a mean to keep fit for the middle and upper class, while combining this trend with a viral digital marketing campaign.

"We hope the Allianz Virtual Run helps to create a new lifestyle for runners and a link for us to the general public who are interested with a healthy living through sports. Running is one of the easiest preventive activities against critical diseases," said Joachim Wessling, Country Manager and President Director Allianz Life Indonesia.

The chairperson of the Yayasan Jantung Indonesia, Dr. Dewi Andang Joesoef added: “I would like to thank Allianz for sponsoring the event this year. I am delighted that one of the world’s leading insurance companies is becoming our Title Sponsor. Their support and contribution will ensure that the Allianz Jakarta Heart Run 2012 10K will be a major success.”

Running as a way to stay healthy is gaining in popularity and is fast rivalling other sports such as golf and tennis which reach out to a relatively high net worth target demographic. Although running is a mass sport globally, in markets such as Indonesia and many other parts of Asia, those who are avid runners tend to fall into the mid-to-upper class demographic.

“The partnership between Allianz and the Yayasan Jantung Indonesia is a perfect match. Both are aiming to create a healthier, better Indonesia. With the Allianz Virtual Run, we work with Allianz on one of the most innovative sponsorship activation concepts in the industry, which will help them to successfully leverage their title sponsorship and connect with their target group.” said Marcus Luer, Total Sports Asia’s Group CEO.

Four new matchups featuring Italy's next superstars added to GLORY 3 ROME 'FINAL 8'

Superfights:
Mustapha Haida vs. Jordan Watson
Marco Re vs. Alka Matewa

70 KG Tournament Reserve Fights:
Dzhabar Askerov vs. Yoshihiro Sato
Fabio Pinca vs. Alessandro Campagna

ROME, Italy (Sept. 7, 2012) – Three of Italy’s top rising stars – Mustapha Haida (18-1), Marco Re (20-3, 13 KO’s) and Alessandro Campagna (29-5, 14 KO’s)– are amongst the fighters that have been tabbed to compete in two Superfights as well as two tournament reserve fights at the highly-anticipated GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ (70 kg) championship kickboxing event at the iconic PalaLottomatica venue on Saturday, November 3.

Haida will face off with Muay Thai powerhouse Jordan Watson (29-5-1, 14 KO’s) of England at 70 kg (154 pounds) in one of the two Superfights and Re will collide with the versatile Alka Matewa (43-6-1, 23 KO’s) of Belgium in the other at 72.5 kg (160 pounds).

In the first of two 70 kg tournament reserve bouts for the card’s eight-man tournament, Fight of the Year candidate Dzhabar Askerov (73-28-1, 37 KO’s) of Russia will take on standout Yoshihiro Sato (49-18, 20 KO’s) of Japan while flamboyant, master technician and seasoned star Fabio Pinca (85-17-4, 32 KO’s) of France clashes with fast-rising, 20-year-old Campagna, who has been dubbed one of the world’s top prospects.

Both reserve matches will be fought before the Final 8 quarterfinal round tournament matches take place. Should any victorious fighter, or fighters, be too injured to advance to the next round of the tournament, their spot will be offered to the fighter they previously defeated. If that fighter cannot continue either, a tournament reserve bout winner will be substituted into the tournament.

“The fighters making their way to the GLORY ring on November 3 are the absolute best in the world in their weight class and are fighting not only for their own glory but for that of their nations,” said GLORY Managing Director, Marcus Luer. “The upcoming event has an incredible mix of champions and hungry, young talent that want to take their spot on the world stage. I have no doubt that the action will be fast and explosive.”

Superfights:

Jordan Watson vs. Mustapha Haida

Watson has been going from strength to strength on the way to becoming one of the England’s top fighting talents. He has an attacking style and a great deal of power, which has led to him knocking more than half of his opponents out. In his last fight, he thrilled British fans with a standout performance, including a thunderous head-kick, on the way to a comfortable decision win over Hamed Assan of France.

Haida, originally from Morocco but based in Italy, has enjoyed an almost unbeaten run on the Italian circuit, where his fluid and technical style has been impressive. Watson has the power advantage and far more experience, which means Haida will have to be on top of his game and fighting cleverly to get the win.

Marco Re vs. Alka Matewa

With 13 of his 20 wins coming by way of knockout, Re’s record lends testimony to his level of power. Re also brings to the ring great timing ,which allows him to land attacks and counterattacks very precisely, often kicking an opponent's leg out from under them while they are attempting to kick him.

Like Re, Matewa has stopped more than half of his opponents. An experienced professional, Matewa works hard on his hands and he has a good level of boxing ability and good head movement. He doesn’t have the same flair that Re does but he has a high work rate and has demonstrated his willingness to trade blows with opponents.

Tournament Reserve Fights:

Dzhabar Askerov vs. Yoshihiro Sato

Askerov has won over legions of fans with a super aggressive style of fighting that spawns round after round of non-stop action and attacking.

Sato is, in some ways, almost the opposite of Askerov. He is a cerebral fighter and does not rush in to trade shots. Instead he likes to pick his opponents apart and use his range advantage, working away at their legs and body with kicks and knees.

This fight is like a meeting of fire and ice and their strengths and weaknesses play well against each other. Askerov sometimes struggles to defend his legs because he is planting his feet to let his hands go, while Sato’s main weakness is probably that he is relatively easy to hit for a fighter with good hands.

Both fighters are determined to notch a victory after suffering defeats in their respective bouts at GLORY: First 16 in May. Askerov’s fight with Robin Van Roosmalen in the event was a three-round war and an instant classic which fans around the world immediately declared a possible Fight of the Year.

Fabio Pinca vs. Alessandro Campagna

Pinca is a tremendously exciting talent and he has an unusually wide arsenal of techniques at his disposal. If the opportunity for a spinning back-fist is there Pinca will take it as easily as he throws a jab. Pinca is very good at working his opponents all over and he has stopped nearly half of them inside the distance.

Earlier this year, he took a win over the world’s best Muay Thai fighter Saenchai, a testament to Pinca’s remarkably complete skills. He is a difficult proposition for any of the world’s top fighters and he will definitely have some tricks to show his young Italian opponent.

Campagna is taking a huge step up in opposition for this fight, but he has shown his worthiness of doing so by earning wins over several fighters with more experience and bigger reputations.

Campagna is big for the weight class and will have a size and range advantage on Pinca. He also shares a background in Muay Thai with Pinca and is very fond of throwing hard punches to the head to create an opening for knees to the midsection.

Tickets for GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ event, priced from € 27.50, are available for purchase online at www.ticketone.it.

The Superfights and reserve matches round out a card headlined by the world’s top 70 kg fighters competing in a one-night single-elimination tournament to determine the best of the best, with a $300,000 grand prize at stake for the winner. The tournament draw features Giorgio ‘The Doctor’ Petrosyan (71-1-2 (1 NC), 33 KO’s) of Italy, Albert “The Hurricane” Kraus (66-16-3, 39 KO’s) of Netherlands, Robin “Poker Face” van Roosmalen (35-13-3, 10 KO’s) of Netherlands; Shemsi Beqiri (71-7, 31 KO’s) of Switzerland, Ky Hollenbeck (34-7, 21 KO’s) of USA, Tim Thomas.(60-1-9, 35 KO’s) of England, Davit Kiria (18-7, 10 KO’s) of Netherlands and Sanny Dahlbeck (24-4, 14 KO’s) Sweden.

The matchups for the quarterfinal round of the tournament will be determined in a random draw, the details of which will be announced soon.

Doors at PalaLottomatica will open at 18:00 local time for the Final 8 event. The first preliminary bout will begin at 19:00 and the first main card bout will begin at 20:30.

Kickboxing Superstar Tyrone Spong Signs Exclusive Agreement with GLORY

Tyrone SpongLONDON, UK (Aug. 22, 2012) - Heavyweight kickboxing KO artist and former Ernesto Hoost protégé Tyrone “The King of the Ring” Spong (68-6-1, 42 KO’s) of Amsterdam, Netherlands has signed a multi-fight, two-year exclusive deal with GLORY to compete in the world’s premiere kickboxing league. He is slated to make his GLORY debut at the GLORY World Series mega-event in Tokyo, Japan on a December date to be announced soon.

The 26-year-old, 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in), 103.5 kg (228 pound), former It’s Showtime World Champion, has scored KO’s in over 60 percent of his victories,. including his latest conquest, a third-round stoppage of all-time great Peter Aerts in Brussels, Belgium on June 30, 2012.

Spong made an immediate impact in the kickboxing world in 2003, his first year competing as a professional, reeling off 12 consecutive wins in a span of as many months. He notched his first major victory on Oct. 1, 2006 when he scored a thunderous, first round (1:55) KO on world champion Kaoklai Kaennorsing of Bangkok, Thailand in Almere, Netherlands. A marquee moment in his career was as a 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix finalist from the old K-1 organization.

“I am very happy to join GLORY and take part in their heavyweight division. It was clear to me that GLORY World Series represents the toughest challenge in kickboxing,” said Spong, who recently relocated to South Florida where he trains alongside UFC superstars Alistair Overeem and Rashad Evans. In addition to being mentored by kickboxing legend Hoost, Spong has trained under professional boxing guru, Floyd Mayweather, Sr.

“The best stand-up fighters in the world are taking part in this league,” Spong continued, “and I want to prove that I am the best. I will be the king of the Glory ring”

Spong is renowned for his incredible athleticism and technical fluidity, attributes that allow him to move with a level of speed that is comparable to a lightweight.

“We are delighted to welcome Tyrone Spong to the GLORY heavyweight division,” said GLORY Ambassador, Cor Hemmers. “He is a very exciting fighter and has a very impressive highlight reel. Fans can expect some superb performances and lots of knockouts.

“Our roster of heavyweight superstars is beyond anything kickboxing has ever seen and, with the acquisition of Tyrone, it just became that much more outstanding,“ commented Marcus Luer, Managing Director of GLORY Sports International.

Born in Suriname and raised in Amsterdam, Spong started his career as a middleweight where he won two different European championships, and has steadily climbed through the weight categories over the years, winning a cruiserweight title on his way to heavyweight.

Amongst the heavyweight superstars whom Spong will join in Tokyo are Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky, Semmy Schilt and Jerome Le Banner—all GLORY fighters who, together, boast a collection of over 10 heavyweight World Grand Prix titles from the old K-1 organization-- and rising stars such as Errol Zimmerman, Gokhan Saki, Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva and Filip Verlinden.

A night of GLORY

On Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd in the Swedish capital Stockholm, the GLORY World Series tournament commenced with an event that even the most veteran kickboxing fans are declaring to be one of the best nights of fighting they have ever seen.

From top to bottom the event was stacked with the household names of the kickboxing world, legends of fighting drawn from every part of the globe on a mission to try and win the most prestigious tournament in the sport and progress, eventually, to the grand finale and a prize of $300,000.

The action was unrelenting - every fighter who entered the GLORY ring was ready for war. Some went the distance and put on a master class display of the skills they have spent a lifetime crafting, other fights were over quickly as

“We had an amazing night of GLORY in Stockholm. The show looked amazing, the fights were world-class and the fans loved it. We could not have asked for a better start for the new GLORY World Series - but this is only the beginning. If you enjoyed this first show, you will love what’s coming up,” says GLORY SPORTS INTERNATIONAL Managing Director Marcus Luer.

His comments were echoed by GLORY SPORT President Bas Boon, who has been involved in fight sports since the 1990s but has rarely witnessed an event that was so action-packed and so satisfying both for its producers and for its audience.

“I am very excited to be part of the new GLORY Sports International organization. What a way to start the First 16 here in Stockholm, Sweden,” he said immediately after the event had concluded. “I want to thank everybody in GLORY and also a special thanks to the production team - the Swedish promoter did a stand-out job.

“This is just the beginning - we are ready to conquer the stand-up fighting sport world and take it by storm. It’s time for GLORY!”

Last night’s event was broadcast to 110,000,000 homes worldwide by some of the world’s premier sports television networks, including EuroSport, Canada’s Fight Network and the Central European terrestrial television broadcaster KanalTurk.

The television broadcasts were complemented by a high-definition live pay-per-view stream which aired via www.gloryworldseries.com. Employing state-of-the-art technology, the stream was perfect throughout and - notably for a live stream of extended duration - suffered no technical difficulties, leading to a high level of fan satisfaction.

GLORY World Series: First 16 was headlined by the legendary Semmy Schilt, who reinforced his status as the world’s number one heavyweight kickboxer by putting a clinic on the young highly-regarded prospect Errol Zimmerman.

Zimmerman’s corner threw the towel in in the third round as Schilt’s dominance became impossible for their man to endure. The win earned Schilt the GLORY Heavyweight Title, the most prestigious kickboxing title in the world. Schilt in his post-fight interview acknowledged that he ranks this title on the same level as his previous titles in the other organization.

Also on the card, Gokhan Saki demonstrated his thrilling power with a quick stoppage of the American veteran Carter Williams and Nieky Holzken stopped rising Swedish star Alex Harris with a trademark body shot in the second round of their super fight.

In the centrepiece of the event, the eight opening-round fights of the GLORY World Series 70 kilo tournament produced action, surprises and excitement as the sixteen top fighters in the weight class fought tooth and nail for the chance to progress to the quarter-finals.

Giorgio Petrosyan outpointed the top French fighter Fabio Pinca to underline why he is the favourite to win the tournament, Albert Kraus had a tough battle with Denmark’s Mohammed El Mir to secure his own spot in the next round and American prospect Ky Hollenbeck smashed his countryman Michael Corley in under a minute to get his pass.

Upsets came via the unknown Georgian fighter David Kiria, who knocked down and out-worked the top Thai fighter Kem Sitsonpeenong, and Switzerland’s Shemsi Beqiri did the same with another tournament favourite, Japanese veteran Yoshihiro Sato, to take a split-decision win after an action-packed battle.

Fight of the Night was surely put on by Robin van Roosmalen and Dzhabar Askerov, who stood toe-to-toe and battered each other for nine minutes in a fight that had the fans in the arena going crazy. Van Roosmalen gradually edged ahead and took the decision win.

The final spots in the second round were taken by 21-year-old Swedish prospect Sanny Dahlbeck, who impresses with each outing, and the British fighter Tim Thomas, who stood in on late notice and had actually worked a full shift in a new job the preceding day.

CI-K World Kickboxing Series Launched For Global Audience

C1-KMalaysian-born international kickboxing promoter, Raymond Chan aims to emulate the legendary boxing impresario Don King by creating world-class title bouts featuring the who’s who in the sport through the newly unveiled CI-K World Kickboxing Series.

CI-K which is closely linked with Wu Lin Feng, the premier and most respected kickboxing platform in China has been transformed via the introduction of rules tailored to promote the sport as wholesome family entertainment while meeting the expectations of global television audiences.

Chan who has been promoting kickboxing events in China which attracts television audiences in excess of 100 million is betting on the growing international interest in the sport and is convinced the CI-K World Series will address the absence of a single global platform which facilitates leading exponents to vie for honours in the various weight classes while promoting a commonly acceptable ranking standard.

Speaking at the unveiling of the CI-K World Kickboxing Series here today, Chan, the Vice President of CI-K Kickboxing International Sdn Bhd, expressed confidence in growing and sustaining interest in CI-K Kickboxing and to compete on the international stage alongside others sports such as boxing, tennis, golf, badminton and athletics. CI-K is the global face for Wu Lin Feng and is poised to become a major world brand in the near future.

“Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has now become a major sports and entertainment property worldwide. Testament to MMA’s growing popularity and exponential growth is the mushrooming of dedicated entertainment fight channels worldwide.

C1-K

“While the CI-K World Kickboxing Series is an individual event, the CI-K World Challenger Series will feature bouts between fighters representing their respective nations or group of nations.

“CI-K Kickboxing with its lightning quick kicks, rapid-fire power-packed punches and powerful jabs is highly skillful and exciting for both fans who are watching live at the arena or as well as home audiences across the globe compliments of pervasive live and recorded sports programs as the violence associated with many other fight sports has been reduced making it more palatable to TV stations and global audiences.”

CI-K Kickboxing International has enlisted the services of world-class specialists to take the competition global. CI-K will partner Total Sports Asia (TSA), a global leader in sports content and branding solutions, to manage the global media rights sales and sponsorship for both series. Malaysia based TSA is the largest independent sports marketing company in Asia with an extensive international footprint.

“We are confident we can replicate our success from other worldwide brands to add value to our partnership with CI-K, especially in terms of sponsorships and worldwide distribution of television rights,” said Mr. Marcus Luer, Group CEO of Total Sports Asia.

Media specialists, Zenith Media, one of the world’s largest media services company will leverage its extensive global network and its expertise in branding and media to provide media advisory services to help build the CI-K brand worldwide.

The CI-K World Kickboxing Series will comprise 15-20 fights a year between top fighters from different parts of the world and will culminate with the crowning of World Champions in each respective weight category. The fights will be held across the Asia Pacific region and Malaysia has been tapped to host several bouts.

“As a Malaysian involved in promoting this sport, I am excited with the launch of both inaugural series in Kuala Lumpur and will also invest my organisation’s efforts to develop and promote kickboxing interests in Malaysia.

“There is fledgling interest in Malaysia and several bouts are in the pipeline to facilitate introduction and development of Malaysian boxers in this fast growing sport,” added Chan.

CI-K Kickboxing International also appointed Zenest Event Management Sdn Bhd as the local event organiser for all fights staged in Malaysia.

The launch in Kuala Lumpur featured several major world class and Malaysian fighters who gave a demonstration of some of the fight moves. They were Yi Long, ‘The Shaolin Warrior Monk’, 23, and 19-year old Tie Ying Hua, currently ranked as one of the world’s best kickboxer, both from China; Leo Monteiro, 31, from Brazil; Weehard Rachanon, 26, from Thailand and Malaysia’s very own Saiful ‘The Vampire” Merican, 24, and 25 year- old Muhammad Ali Yaakub.

About CI-K Kickboxing International
CI-K Kickboxing has its roots from the popular Wu Lin Feng Kickboxing programme in China broadcast by Henan TV for the past eight years. CI-K has been created to transform the successful Wu Lin Feng Series and rebrand it to give it greater international appeal and also to market it globally. CI-K recognises that repackaging the Wu Lin Feng programme and changing its operational activities to a more international standard will add value to the programme at a time where there is a void in stand-up fighting left by K-1 of Japan.

Axiata Announces Biggest Badminton Championship

Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata), one of Asia’s largest telecommunications companies, today announced together with the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) and Total Sports Asia (TSA), the creation of the Axiata Cup — the world’s highest prize money team event at USD 1 million. The Axiata Cup will feature 8 teams from 6 countries participating over a 4-week period. Starting on March 23rd in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia simultaneously, the semi-finals will be played on a home and away basis on March 30th and April 1st with the Finals played also home and away on April 13 and 15. Participating nations include: Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines. The event will also feature a unique format of play featuring, for the first time ever in BAC history, home/ away matches.

“We are very happy to be sponsoring the most exciting badminton event in the region this year with the biggest prize money among any team event in the world. We are making this investment because badminton has huge appeal amongst our customers across the region and the title sponsorship of such a major global event will help grow the Axiata brand”, said Dato’ Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim President & Group Chief Executive Officer, Axiata Group. “We have been searching for the right opportunity to get into sport and we are confident that with this event, we have now found it” he added.

BAC Secretary General, Surasak Songvarakulpan, explained, “The BAC is pleased to present this interesting new event. One of our mandates is to grow the sport of badminton in Asia. This region has dominated the sport over its history and we want to continuously be on the cutting edge of its development. The Axiata Cup will support this directive. It is our hope that we will be able to create more such regional events around Asia.”

Badminton is a traditional sport with firm roots in the ASEAN region. Many of the biggest stars in the sport were born and bred here in Southeast Asia. In order to ensure that badminton continues to compete with other sports in attracting the most talented athletes, the BAC along with Axiata and TSA would like to create events that are dynamic, more attractive to youth and unite the Southeast Asian region.

The aim is to have a badminton tournament unlike any other. The event will be the most exciting badminton tournament with new formats and competitions to raise the bar in the sport of badminton. Apart from the USD1 million prize money, this includes the new and creative format of play. The Axiata Cup will feature matches that would last for a maximum of 3 hours each, unlike the usual 6-10 hours.

Aside from the unique home/away format, used for the first time ever, each team is also allowed to field up to two foreign “parties” (singles or doubles players) to bolster their teams. Players must originate from outside of ASEAN, but teams would be free to approach any available players from China, Korea, Denmark or other countries to play on their teams.

Axiata and its Operating Companies will be announcing soon a series of digital events and activities that will allow fans of badminton across the SEA region to participate in the Axiata Cup directly. Whether it be online chats with players, participating in badminton-themed mobile contests or experiencing the content through digital means, Axiata intends to be a leader in bringing the sport of badminton into the digital space. Another area that will be utilized is Virtual Advertising. An agreement with Brand Magic, the world’s leading Virtual Advertising provider, will allow Axiata and the event partners to enjoy more dynamic brand messaging on screen during the matches without bothering play on the court. “Bringing the feeling of EPL-like digital boards to the sport of badminton will create an atmosphere of ‘bigness’ to the game, ” remarked Marcus Luer, TSA’s Group CEO and continued, “it’s time that badminton upped its game and shows the world that there is more value in the sport than is currently being realized. Working with cutting edge technologies such as Virtual Advertising will allow brands to interact in a more meaningful way with the sport without bothering play on the court. It’s a win-win situation.” Check out the event website at: www.axiatacup.com for more information.

Participating teams will announce their player lists by February 23rd and will already be starting to consider who will be offered positions. Songvarakulpan indicated, “Some teams will surely seek support from foreign stars in key areas while others may elect not to.” With USD 1 million in prize money on offer, and as all costs of the teams are covered, there is certainly the likelihood of seeing some big names joining participating teams. Luer continued, “We hope to attract stars from around the world to play in the event which will give it an NBA-like quality that the sport has never before seen. The teams invited to play in the event can truly be strengthened by the world’s best players. Moving forward, the event can grow in many directions, we are all very excited.”

Another thriller will be Errol Zimmerman vs Jerome Le Banner.

GLORY Moscow will feature fighters from many different countries including MMA fighters Dennis Stojnic (Bosnia), Dion Staring (Holland), Tommy Depret (Belgium) and Kickboxers Robin van Roosmalen (Holland), Igor Jurkovic (Croatia), Maxim Vorovski (Estonia), Mark "Fightshark" Miller (USA), Errol Zimmerman (Surinam), Sergei Kharitonov (Russia), Jerome Le Banner (France), Semmy Schilt (Holland), and more.
